Virginian Sky
Imported Trakehner stallion Virginian Sky (16.1h) represents the pinnacle of European performance breeding, carrying a royal pedigree packed with Olympic, international, and top-level national competitors across all three Olympic disciplines—dressage, eventing, and show jumping. This gorgeous gray stallion combines exceptional talent, refinement, and a proven record of performance and production.
Virginian Sky has won at 4th Level Dressage with scores over 70%, earning his Performance Bronze, and has successfully competed through Preliminary Level Eventing, demonstrating extraordinary versatility, athleticism, and work ethic. He also competed successfully at Prix St. Georges, earning high scores. Virginians Skys highlights are his breathtaking passage and piaffe. In addition to his dressage achievements, Virginian Sky has been a Blue Ribbon winner with the United States Eventing Association, proving his reliability and competitive spirit across disciplines.
Virginian Sky is approved with Trakehner, Oldenburg NA, and Rhineland registries, earning approval based on his outstanding performance record. Additionally his foals may be registered Hanoverian when out of approved Hanoverian mares. His offspring consistently inherit his athleticism, trainability, and friendly disposition, excelling in eventing, dressage, jumping, and hunters. “Of Wind N Sky FSF” won the Novice Area VI Championships in 2019 and competes at Preliminary with her Young Rider. “Biscotti” was the High Score Mare at the 2019 breed inspection, and “Bodega Sky” earned Premium Foal status. All mares presented by Virginian Sky have received high approval scores.
Pedigree and Bloodlines
Virginian Sky descends from impeccable European performance bloodlines renowned for producing Olympic and international sport horses. His pedigree embodies versatility and proven athletic success, a quality deeply rooted on both the sire and dam sides.
Sire Line
Virginian Sky is sired by Best Before Midnight, a 16.3h gray Trakehner stallion who competed successfully and was approved with multiple registries. Initially developed as a show jumper, Best Before Midnight later transitioned to FEI-level dressage (up to Inter I). Notably he won the jumping portion of his stallion performance test—a rare combination of talents that he passes to his offspring. Best Before Midnight’s sire, Sir Shostakovich xx, founded a powerful performance line in the Trakehner breed, producing numerous international stars, including:
-
Boettcher’s Longchamps – Olympic eventer
-
Lester Piggott – Rolex Kentucky CCI**** placed
-
Chateauneuf – Premium stallion, S-level show jumping and M-level dressage
-
Donau Monarch and Couleur-Fuerst – Approved international S-level show jumpers
-
Invincible Sir – S-level dressage stallion
Best Before Midnight’s dam sire, Bajar ShA, was the most successful Shagya Arabian in the Trakehner breed after WWII. His influence extended into multiple sport horse registries, producing Olympians in show jumping and eventing (including Balzac, White Girl TSF, and Bergell), and establishing a lasting stallion line in the Holsteiner breed known for its elite eventers and show jumpers.
Dam Line
Virginian Sky’s dam, Virginian Girl xx, was a champion steeplechaser in Germany, racing successfully for seven seasons. She was bred to Best Before Midnight multiple times, producing several successful competition horses in Germany.
Her tail female line traces to some of the most influential Thoroughbred sires in modern sport horse breeding, including Northern Dancer xx, Secretariat xx, Charlottown xx, Ballymoss xx, Busted xx, Hurry On xx, Precipitation xx, and Sir Gaylord xx. This family also produced notable Trakehners Amor II and Astronaut. Amor II sired Amethyst, a CCI** Bromont winner and ATA-approved eventing sire.
This TB family has also produced:
-
Xucar xx, jumper sire in the Trakehner breed and sire of approved son Protector
-
FEI show jumpers Belle Doudou, Lolipop, Tinapaei xx, and Caratella
-
Hunter/Jumper Un Beerenauslese (approved, USA)
-
Approved Westfalian For Romadour (Bundeschampionat Dressage 2011)
-
Influential sires Alleged xx, Allegrador xx, and Fly Society xx
This is also the same family as Sea Lion xx, the multiple-registry approved four-star eventer in the U.S.
Virginian Girl’s dam sire Limbo xx was a top youngster racehorse in Germany, finishing third in the German Derby (1978). His sire, Pentathlon xx, produced numerous athletic descendants who entered European warmblood breeding for their athleticism and work ethic. Notably, Don Pedro AA (by Pentathlon xx) show jumped at the advanced level and produced upper-level eventers and jumpers. Pentathlon xx also sired the Trakehner-approved Frescobaldi xx, sire of upper-level dressage horses.
Virginian Sky is a full-blooded refining Trakehner stallion whose pedigree and performance demonstrate the rare combination of refinement and top-tier sport ability. His lineage holds more descendants with Olympic, international, and national-level performance across dressage, eventing, and show jumping than virtually any other comparably blooded licensed stallion. With Virginian Sky, there is no need to compromise performance for refinement. He is WFFS negative.
